I realise this is at a jaunty angle but I was doing very subtle sitting down photography in the college chapel before the Advent Carol Service. If I'd been more on top of my church architecture I would have realised that we had really good seats not the really bad ones I was expecting. We had a great view of the choir and the temptation to take photos was enormous but it's such a small, intimate chapel (compared to King's) that I couldn't bring myself to do it - and I don't know how to take the shutter sound off. I've never been so far into the chapel before - right up by the altar - and the ceiling is one of my favourite parts. Only Eight Lessons and Carols I discovered - I've always felt that ninth one is just one too many myself!!
Sorry I'm way behind on commenting - out last night, a little worse for wear this morning and masses of ironing to do before the weekly madness starts again - I promise I'll get on to it ASAP.
Great shot Judith - I'm massively behind too - and ironing is on the backburner - have to go to work creased tomorrow!! LOL love the detail in this and quite a cool angle - I hate that when the urge to get up adn shoot everyhting in sight is surpressed becasue of the environment! Glad you enjoyed the 8 carols! I guess I'll watch Kings on tv again this year!!
@sparkle Aww - you could always queue up!! Sounds like you were lucky getting the view you did though - I've been behind the choir for an Easter service (with strict instructions from Nigel not to sing) but the Christmas Day serivice on the wrong side of the screen isn't as good - I like to see the little boys singing!
Lovely red and gold. If you look at it long, the ceiling appears to change from concave to convex and "come right out at you." It is so hard when you want so much to take a photo....and cannot. This is a nice one though!
An awe inspiring roof Judith & it looks like you were under the main bit !!! You did very well to get this shot & I expect the shutter sounded very loud !! I did catch several bits of your concert just sitting by the fire reading the papers & then the phone rang ! Heard Rejoice & a few more but the speaking voices weren't very clear although I didn't tune in to hear that, you must have enjoyed it greatly !
@happypat TBH some of the lessons weren't read terribly well - I'm showing my age now thinking that! At least you weren't thinking 'who's that droning on in the background?'!
What an amazing ceiling - colors are gorgeous, Judith! Seems as though we're all falling behind in our commenting and viewing - must be the time of year. I always hope to get caught up on weekends, but now, my weekends are busier than ever!. You were lucky to get in such a great shot!
gorgeous shot - really hard taking photos in church - I do and I'm partly encouraged (I take for the church website), but then other people get really upset
Beautiful! Taking photos in church is tricky - you don't want to spoil it for others. I would have loved the chance to take photos in Kings College Chapel, when we went for Evensong, but it just wasn't right :(
