Obey by judithg

Obey

Oh dear - I think I'm going to run out of 365 space - I have more photos that I like than I realised! Adam got excited about this as the art work is by Obey who did that iconic poster of Obama http://www.obeygiant.com/headlines/obama.
I think I've taken this too early to enter it into the street art 'signs' competition. We found New Yorkers extremely friendly and helpful but the 'officials' were hilariously bossy. At airport security which was extremely slow due to the use of 2 X-ray machines (yes 2 - at JFK!) the guard beckoned me forward, I stepped forward , he said, 'Step back, don't come till you're called.' I stepped back, he beckoned me forward and said, 'Come on, step forward, hurry up!' We had to try not to laugh because we'd also been entertained by the ferry people telling people to 'Take long steps' as they disembarked - pretty impossible in a slow crowd!
Oh I like that Don't honk sign too!

I love your title/theme for this shot. So many things to "obey" in this ! What an iconic image! Fav for me! very good eye and very creative

@fueast I'm cross because the 'Curb your dog' sign I took on 5th Ave is out of focus. Double whammy for a pedantic Brit - took me a while to realise they meant 'Kerb your dog' and had converted 'Kerb' into a verb. Spotted it all over the place as well.

What a street scene. Fav for sue
June 10th, 2012
@judithg hmm but what do they mean by that exactly?
June 10th, 2012
lots of great signs and that street art is fantastic

@fueast I think it meant 'Please leave your $4000 pedigree chihuahua outside the building.' I have a photo of a 'curbed' pug outside an art gallery - not tied up just lying down patiently. Clearly where I went wrong is failing to use the professional 'Puppy school' services that we saw (you leave it with them all day) - those people know how to train a dog - we didn't see any that weren't beautifully well-behaved.

@paulavdmerwe Thanks Paula!

great shot - at least the security guards didn't tell you to go home!!
June 10th, 2012
@sparkle Ah well that's a good point - I did think about you as we waited for ages in the queue for entry...
June 10th, 2012
Wow, they've gotten more strict since last I went through JFK. At least things finally did move forward and stuff though. LOL

beautiful shot, i like the poster on the wall, very cool!

The street art is fab, but it's the "Don't Honk" sign that grabs my attention too. :)
June 10th, 2012
Don't Honk !!! Hilarious ! I can see the style of the Obama illustration in that look of the guy on the right. The officials sound very bossy & they say security is a nightmare putting me off going via LA to Auckland.

@happypat Getting in was straightforward (apart from the slow queue) but don't tell @sparkle!

Another cool shot, love the street art!

Amazing street shot. The title says it all.

Great shot and such a perfect title!!

love your New York series Judith, I'd love to photograph this city !
June 10th, 2012
@judithg @fueast "Curb your dog" means take it to the curb to do its business - not on the sidewalk. On another note - could you imagine coming to NY and not being able to read English?!?!
June 10th, 2012
Love this shot and all the random stuff in it. And I love Shepherd Farey too. Great find. Fav
June 10th, 2012
This is excellent. It's great to have to many good shots. :-)
June 11th, 2012
@bpaquette @fueast Aha!! Luckily Monty tends to 'curb' himself. I'll tell you what Barbara - we certainly didn't speak the same language - half the time it was guesswork - they didn't know what I was saying and I didn't understand the replies!
