Well we had a fantastic weekend with old friends from my PhD days. It's fair to say that some of my college friends have been very successful (not sure what happened to me!!) and there were 14 of us comfortably accommodated in my friend's magnificent country house in Somerset. More than two guests in ours and I have to get the airbeds out! It really was amazing and he has a retired Ghurka and his wife looking after it during the week so we were also treated to a delicious Nepalese curry. Shame it's such a long drive or I'd be there every weekend. Monty lost a ball in the garden (Adam laughed when he said 'It isn't lost it's in the garden' because there was an awful lot of garden to go at!) Lovely to see some sloping countryside for a change too!
Very nice! Glad you had an enjoyable time & ( in response to your comment in brackets) I'm just taking this chance to say how much respect I have for all that you do.
@sparkle I know - I was wondering if my cleaner 3h a week counted as staff.... Still the same as when we were students though - no airs and graces and extremely generous. All very relaxed.
It sounds a wonderful weekend Judith & what fun, such a large party ! Monty was allowed too so very generous hosts! You make me laugh about the lack of hills in Cambridge but look at all the stunning buildings & collages you have in exchange....you can soon get fed up with a slope believe me!
@happypat I was thinking the same thing! Lovely that Monty was invited. @judithg Did they have nice guest accomodations for Monty? Also, great that he likes going places. My last dog was a total neurotic who hated the car and any place away from her familiar surroundings.
@meisen325 Given how beautiful the house is they were completely unfazed - even when he went in the muddy stream, shot inside with Adam in hot pursuit and went upstairs. He likes the car and was quite excited when we arrived but he was very calm by the next day. But he gets anxious if his crate is in a new place at bedtime and he kept whining and barking so I let him out of the crate which was near our ground-floor room (by the chapel which has been converted into a games room ;0) ) and as I didn't dare take him out as I'd forgotten to ask if the door was alarmed, he came in our room. He has only ever slept in his crate and when I left him out one very hot night he couldn't cope, but he just lay down under the bed by my head, sighed deeply, passed wind and slept very soundly all night!!
Lovely shot, looks like a gorgeous house! glad you had a good weekend - i dont even have one spare bedroom! but on the plus side there's less to clean ;-)
My overriding memory of Cambridgeshire is how flat it was. :)
