I took Nigel on a new walk I discovered along one of the dykes just outside of Rampton this afternoon. Monty escaped across what we had decided was an impenetrable ditch/hedge combo into a neighbouring field full of rabbits but came back after some ridiculous ear-flapping bounding around. The place was teeming with dragonflies but not many were stopping apart from on my arm. I eventually tracked this one to a tree - I don't know what species this green one is - it was certainly well camouflaged. It reminded me of arriving in Arles in the South of France when we were students - the dragonflies there are massive and quite menacing as they fly at you.
Rampton is a pretty village but it's been slightly ruined for me by Sebastian Faulkes who used it in his brilliant but scary book 'Engleby' as the scene of a particularly nasty event!
Nearly forgot my positives:
1. Rachel's hand is much better.
2. Adam has finally finished most of his homework and packed his bags for his school trip to Iceland.
3. Nigel's grading for his 3rd Dan seemed to go well yesterday - no disasters and he can still walk today!
Great positives Judith. I have checked your exif to see what exposure you used for this shot ...must try & remember! Lovely dragon flies but I think I have only ever seen two dragon flies in my life, I don't think they like tit up here!
@happypat They certainly liked it down there. I went looking for water voles actually but didn't see any - maybe at dusk - there may be otters as well - looks likely. The stream is very sunken between the walls of the dyke - we were speculating that the fields either side are below sea level. You may not get many dragonflies up north but at least you get altitude!
