Snowy Farr was a Cambridge institution who raised £125,000 for Guide Dogs for the Blind before dying penniless at age 89 in 2007. His garden in Oakington was very recognisable because it was full of cuddly toys and his neighbours kept an eye on him and paid for his headstone in Oakington churchyard - which he kept tidy when not busking with his menagerie to raise money for charity. He was made an MBE by the Queen and the City Council unveiled a memorial to him this month. Funding came from the 'public art' pot - he wouldn't have wanted any money diverted from any other good cause. It's been a bit controversial but I like it - it's eccentric and colourful and a magnet for children which is exactly what Snowy was. You'll understand the cat and mice on the hat if you view his photo - a true treasure who is greatly missed. It's really worth clicking the link because he was amazing! http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/cambridgeshire/hi/people_and_places/arts_and_culture/newsid_9360000/9360397.stm and http://www.ecoln.com/donsnow.jpg

Three good things:
1. No reports of plane incidents so Adam must have got safely to Iceland.
2. My neighbour is on holiday and told me to help myself to her greenhouse so lovely tomatoes AND I can scrump her amazing raspberries.
3. My other neighbours are having their annual party so gorgeous Thai food awaits...
@busylady Yes - thanks - well that was a surprise! The cat on the hat is explained by the BBC link which I've just added - no idea how he persuaded the cat to do that!
He sounds & looks an amazing man & a true eccentric who did such great charity work...love his hat & I think his statue does him proud! I like the 3 good things, I must remember to say mine as I have lots but a little bit of bad news this morning but we have to look forward & onwards!!!
I read about him after another photo was posted. This shows how ornate the sculpture is and a wonderful tribute to a very giving guy! Who is going to Iceland? Does he have a camera? Hope your bit of bad news Pat @happypat is just a hiccup!
@happypat@maggiemae I can put on here because no one will see but my daughter in law lost the baby she was expecting in February so we all rather sad as she does not get pregnant easily. They told her at her 12 week scan yesterday & she rang to tell us this morning. She is quite positive though & one egg left so will be ok next time.
@happypat It must be so difficult to deal with- in fact I don't think they will ever forget what might have been! There must be a bright side to it somewhere!
@maggiemae@snowy She is very hopeful so that is good & still blessed with one dear little boy. Good to tell someone on Judiths site because of course it wasn't generally known so thank you for your kind thoughts.
