I desperately want to get to the coast but it's a good a hour and a half away and I haven't been able to find a full day to make it worthwhile. But heading east makes me feel like I'm trying and we ended up in Thetford Forest which made Monty happy (that reminds me - I must check for ticks!) There is a nice heathland area which is great habitat for lizards, nightjars and adders. I asked Rachel if she'd take the dog if we saw an adder so that I could photograph it and she said if we saw an adder she would be running in the opposite direction. We only have one species of poisonous snake in this country - you'd think she'd at least like to see it? No?
Such beautiful heather:)
I like snakes , am happy to touch them and even hold them, but if I happened to stumble across one in the wild it would completely freak me out! I'm with Rachel on this one!
@hamble No but she still scarpered and stood watching me from the other side of a gate while I took photos. I quite enjoyed telling her that there are adders all over Thetford Forest and not just one side of a 5-barred gate - she didn't see the funny side.
She has a good healthy self preserving instinct...you could do worse in a daughter (or son). I am so glad I viewed this enlarged. It is so beautiful with its colors, tones, layers
Lovely shot of the heather and the forrest. We always stop there on the way to Norfolk and it is lovely. I hate snakes and agree with Rachel and you wouldn't see me for dust if a snake appeared!
I'm with Rachel & the very thought of an adder being in that grass is enough to put me off going any where near|! Mind you that heather is a stunning colour & would imagine it has done well this year with all the rain.
This lovely heathland shot reminds me of the Suffolk coastal countryside, can almost smell it. (a scary experience with Jinks once when I really thought he had a tick on his leg - good job I didn't try to extricate it as it was a tiny growth which had to be operated on!)

Lovely shot - heather is such a lovely colour.
