Eight... by judithg

Eight...

...if you're wondering. Not his - he's a dog walker. Nice chap but too much woofing for a proper conversation. Took lots of nearly but not quite photos today. Spent the afternoon working but my head was a bit vague so I'll probably spend Monday putting it all right again. Snow forecast - blimey. Adam's Headmaster (a geographer - much teased about 'colouring' by his staff) likes to do a weather forecast and two weeks ago he predicted early and prolonged snow and icy conditions because of the Gulf Stream being so far South. The Deputy Head has predicted milder conditions based on the behaviour of his bees. Looks like the bees may be confused.
Three good things:
1. Inside and can afford, despite the energy companys' best efforts, to have the heating on which is much more fortunate than many people in this country.
2. My latest batch of biscuits reached Rachel and are being appreciated by students.
3. Adam home looking fit and tanned. He's traumatised by the miserable weather but had an amazing time.
8? WOuldn't be allowed in Leeds there's a limit of 6. 6 is enough woofing I should think! Snow. oo that would mix things up a bit! At least a frost would be good.

Pet food bill must be horrific !!! Great picture

really great shot here Judith - nice autumnal scene - wishing I'd bought my new winter coat last week rather than leaving it til next week! Going to be chilly on my run on Sunday!

@fueast What do you mean there's a limit? No limit down here that I've ever heard of. @jasonfury There is another chap with a pack of 9 and they are all his - must cost a bomb.

Thats a lot of dogs to control, and a lot of dog poop to pick up (I hope!) Snow sounds horrible, and with the clocks going back this weekend aswell, bah humbug! I'm swinging through the trees at Go ape tomorrow, I'm going to freeze! Gloves at the ready!

@judithg Yep - they started at 4 and there was uproar - hard to earn a living at 4 I think.
October 26th, 2012
That is a lot of dogs to keep unentangled. Snow...brr. Glad at least I had to go away from home to encounter it. Yeah for warm homes. Wish everyone had them
October 26th, 2012
And I thought 2 was more than enough! Love the collie just wandering the other way clearly having missed something really interesting...
October 26th, 2012
Plenty of fresh air with job like that!
Speaking of warm homes. That's one of the best things about my apartment here - the heating is included in the rent! Bit different to my freezing flat in Nottingham last year where I had to wear up to 6 layers!
Stay warm :)

I'm surprised he's got them all off the lead! He looks very cool about it. Nice Autumn scene.
October 26th, 2012
I think that is a great way to make money - to walk dogs. Nice picture, Judith!
October 26th, 2012
@caddick Strangely the worst behaved was a lab!
October 26th, 2012
Lovely shot with lots to look at :)
In real life this would send my daughter into a complete panic. Working out what one dog will do is bad enough, but 8!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 2012
Great scene! No snow forecast here, but probably a first frost this night.
October 26th, 2012
A wonderfully English scene, just lovely!
October 26th, 2012
Lovely shot of man and his dogs!
October 26th, 2012
good candid shot

Great shot - it was so cold today and my hands were freezing so I think the best thing for me to do is get a pair of fingerless gloves so that I can still keep control of my camera! Not looking forward to snow although it might make some pretty pics but would rather look at it from inside the house. Like you, I'm just glad we can afford to heat our home as I'm trying to sort Eon out as they have charged a 90 year old client £1,200 for her last electricity bill and she lives in a 1 bed bungalow! Estimated or what????
October 26th, 2012
@rosiekind Dear oh dear - I don't know how the company bosses sleep at night.
October 26th, 2012
Love the shot - he's certainly got his hands full!
October 26th, 2012
it's chilly here as well, they predict frost for this night. I can't believe the cold is already here, I feel like summer has left us only a week ago...
And i think this is a great capture!
October 26th, 2012
I have great admiration for dog walkers. This one looks very relaxed with his bevy of dogs - nice shot! Hope you get your head together and I'm going with the bees.

First this is a beautiful scene, very picturesque! This is a very brave man, eight doges & not one on a lead & he has his hands in his pocket LOL ! I would like to have seen Montys face when he saw this lot coming towards him! Speaking of Monty has the the poor lamb had a haircut just as the cold weather arrives?
Heat is the best thing & such a terrible time for anyone cold & the older you get you don't move as fast.
A little competition at Adams school!!!!
October 26th, 2012
Lovely shot Judith.....I am glad I didn't meet him though, I am not keen on dogs, I'm more of a cat person.
October 26th, 2012
@happypat I have some good before pics and rubbish after pics - he's always better with short hair but I may need to put his coat on (don't tell @fueast - she'll think I'm being soft - I nearly got him a Halloween outfit but Nigel would pack my bag for me!)
October 26th, 2012
@judithg Poppy has a coat actually. But she's only allowed to wear it in a blizzard. And it has no Hallowean decorations....
October 26th, 2012
Love this scene but that's a lot of poop to pick up! ;-)
October 26th, 2012
Great shot! What a muttley crew. I wonder what would happen if a duck arrived?!?!?!
October 26th, 2012
This is a very cute shot with all the puppy dogs.
October 26th, 2012
What a beautiful place to walk the dogs! We are expecting a change in weather here, too... :(
October 27th, 2012
Love this shot!!
October 27th, 2012
Have a fun snowy weekend!
October 27th, 2012
Lovely shot, beautiful location.
October 27th, 2012
LOVE this!! The walker seems so calm and collected...and his wards are seemingly feeding off that vibe.
Snow already? Looks like it could be a long, cold winter. Glad you're staying toasty. Glad Adam is home safely. And I'm glad Rachel & friends are being well fed by care packages from home. :)

The dog man of Cambridge
October 27th, 2012
He must surely have his hands full. Gorgeous nature in this shot!
October 27th, 2012
@happypat @bpaquette @peggysirk @jannaellen I'm pretty sure this is the dog-walker who 'sacked' my neighbour's lovely dog Arthur. He's a real sweety pie retriever but he decided to set off on a wander and was eventually relocated about 5 miles from this walk. I bet the poor man was a bit less calm on that occasion. He used a whistle to re-call the dogs - that works for Monty unless there happens to be wildlife in the vicinity. He came across three swans on the path (as featured in today's shot) and did an about turn before his charges noticed them!
October 27th, 2012
This is absolutely gorgeous. I love the colours and the detail and or course the dogs,
October 27th, 2012
very good!!! Wow... 8 dogs!!!
October 28th, 2012
