A decent turnout for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge this morning despite cold damp weather, the off-season for visitors and all the kids in school. Not quite the same atmosphere as the Queen's visit in the sunshine last May but very happy market stall holders (nobody stole anything even though they'd all abandoned their stations!) and a general agreement that Kate needs to eat some Fitzbillies Chelsea buns and put some weight on if we're going to get an heir. I couldn't leave our lovely Mayor out of the photos because she looked so excited and made a very nice speech. They are seeing 'the other side' of Cambridge - a homeless night shelter and a school with a difficult catchment (and in need of demolishing and replacing with something that isn't the worst example of sixties concrete in my opinion).
Three good things:
1. Zoom lenses - not great quality as I was really a bit too far away but you can tell who they are - and I did learn my lesson from the Queen's visit and clean my lens!
2. New wellies without a hole and extra warm socks.
3. Adam got into the county hockey squad again - so he can get some more wear out of the expensive kit!
@anron Apparently she's had a new flicky style but it looked the same to me - wind wasn't being friendly though. She is phenomenally photogenic - I snapped away and she looked beautiful in all of them.
@anron@judithg there was something in the paper today about her 'slight fringe leading to comparisons with Kate Jackson, the Charlie's Angels actress'!!??
How cool! Our 365 photographer was on the scene and getting the shots! Well done, Judith! Kate is so adorable. Your mayor looks rather glam, too, in her official red regalia. Marvelous shots.
Yippeee on all fronts!!! Love your Mayor...she has the same outfit that my Dad wore a couple of times, and great news for Adam..he must be so chuffed!!! Dry feet and a clean zoom---not a bad day...and a lovely selection of pics to boot!!!
I wondered who that very excited young lady was...she looks far too young to be mayor!!!!! What a thrill for her & thank you our roving reporter! Her colourful gown makes a nice splash of colour too.
Talking of heirs I see William was given a babygro for future use...some folks are very brave giving things like that out!
The big lens came good , super pictures Judith !
So great you got to take some pics. These are really great. I like how they always seem happy and relaxed and how she's always dressed just right. Even if she wears the same shoes all the time.
@bpaquette They were on a balcony 100' away maybe? Could be more or less - I'm not very good at distances. They were easier to see through my camera than without anyway! The distance means I'm not looking up so much though - the press ones were less flattering I thought. They did a walkabout and chatted to people but I'm too short to see over people so I didn't bother with that bit.
Thought of you when I knew about this visit and hoped they would oblige you! Some great photos here to show the grandchildren when they ask about their King and Queen :-) Still calling in here everyday for the inspiration and I miss the folks!!
That's a terrific series of pictures! I was hoping they'd come by while I was still there last year but at least I got to see the queen. Hurray for Adam! And hurray for waterproof boots ;).
Totally agree about the chelsea buns. :)
They are so photogenic and look to be having so much fun.
