I almost did a re-run of last year's Nine Lessons and Carols photo - because that's what I'll be listening to again very soon. But I had a last minute change of heart - Adam was rude about my snowman candle holder so I've decided to give it centre stage! I did have a quick look to see when you have to start queuing to stand any chance of squeezing into the back of King's College Chapel and it's before 9am - so that's out unless somebody else is cooking Christmas lunch tomorrow - there is stuffing to make!
But seriously I'd like to wish everybody a very Happy Christmas and thank you all for all your support - it would be rubbish posting here everyday in isolation!
Three good things:
1. Mince pies
2. Sausage rolls made with lovely Gloucester Old Spot free range sausage meat (provided free by our turkey supplier - but the turkey cost a bomb!)
3. Knowing that the most famous Christmas Eve service in the world is happening a mile away and I could stand outside and hear the carols if I felt so inclined (or I could turn the wireless on like everybody else and pour a drink from the bottle of Sipsmith gin I've treated myself to). If you want to hear it too details of its worldwide broadcast times can be found here http://www.kings.cam.ac.uk/events/chapel-services/nine-lessons.html
And a merry Christmas to you and yours - how could he be rude about such a delightful thing. Am listening as I type. Though will probably run away in 20 mins to make some Winter Pimms and watch Nativity ....
@jgpittenger Adam is wrong on a lot of things! Tbh I'd like a sweet sherry at this juncture but I don't drink it any other time & I can't get through a bottle!
I love this shot - so festive and great commentry too! I was lucky enough to get to evensong on Christmas eve at Kings...an amazing experience. I'd be happy enough to sit back with a glass of port in the comfort of my lounge nowadays though! Going to miss it all this year, but other excitment to replace! Have a great day tomorrow and I hope Santa doesn't get stuck down the chimney - there's been an awful lot of food left out for him by us tonight already - he must've put on at least a stone!!
merry Christmas to you Judith and thanks for all the support you give me for my pics.....you are right ........it would be rubbish posting here everyday in isolation
Absolutely adorable and festive! And delicious looking pies!!
Cheers to your acknowledgement of 365 support...I've found the friendships made tend to surpass even the most amazing photographs.
Wishing you and your delightful family a very merry Christmas, Judith!
I think they're very stylish snowmen! I read about the queue you had to join to get into the Kings College service, but it's still on my hopeless bucket list! It's all I can do to find a broadcast of last year's out here. They used to put it on the TV but not any more, they think none of us are civilised enough to be interested. We had to be content with a youtube version - carols only. Thanks for the BBC world service link. I'll check it out next year!
Merry Christmas
