That's pretty much how I feel. I slept hardly at all in thanks to worrying about Adam being ill for his exams after he's worked all holidays and then (in the 3am despair slot) whether he would be fit for the big hockey competition coming up on Friday/Saturday that he would be devastated to miss. I also got up 3 times to dole out neurofen and sort out the Olbas Oil he got in his eye (boys!). On top of that Rachel coughed at one point which made me worry about her (she's fine but is probably back in Birmingham by now - sob). Anyway I had to go over to the county hockey training he should have been taking part in to drop off the paperwork and make his excuses and on the way back I stopped in at Newnham park to take advantage of the lingering fog. However, it's days like this that need three good things...
1. Luckily they don't do drug testing at the hockey competition because at this point I have fed Adam everything the pharmacist was willing to sell me.
2. Beef casserole in the oven - comfort food at the ready.
3. It's our 23rd wedding anniversary today so we are owed some sort of treat on a more convenient day and we did get some nice cards that cheered up my morning.
This is a beautiful impressionistic shot with the muted soft colours and the reflections. Sorry you had that horrid night and hope that Adam will be fit for exams and hockey. (Neil broke his (writing)wrist playing football a few days before his Maths GCSE but they gave him an amanuensis and he got an A). Your 3 things made me smile and Happy Wedding Anniversary and look forward to the treat. btw I just finished reading The Girl who Fell from the Sky and agree, yes, tense, also compelling and a couple of days afterwards also felt it was disturbing. Mawer certainly knows how to ratchet up the tension.
@judithg I think that's what I found disturbing! And that final page showed Mawer at his storytelling best. I've concluded that she just had some sort of deathwish.............
@quietpurplehaze I'm sure the constant fear & distrust must have messed up their minds. 'Restless' was a different take on spying I thought - a bit confusing as half of the 'London' scenes were well known Cambridge landmarks!
@quietpurplehaze I think it would! Mind you I'm struggling to keep up with two others at the moment - but I've heard other people say they wish they were in one.
Hope Adam is fit and well when it is time for his exams it is a stressful time.So hard to see them off to uni hope Rachel is enjoying being at Birmingham.Love your wintry scene. And finally Happy aniversary
Happy WEdding Anniversary , despite the sleepless night. as a mumits that awful feeling of being out of control.
Is it co-incidence the ohrase '' and sheep may safely graze'' popped into my head. May all your sheep be safe.
This is a dreamy, quite beautiful shot and it is also a FAV! Cherrill is right, it is atmospheric. Happy Anniversary to you both and hope Adam makes a speedy recovery. Regarding the bookclub idea - each book concluded by the group could be celebrated by every reader posting an appropriate shot with reference to the plot of the novel on an agreed date . . .
@jlhopgood And when I worked full time in an (at times) stressful job with two toddlers at home I always slept like a log - because I was in control and now I'm not....
@tishpics@judithg I wouldn't mind organising it - or maybe Patricia, we could do it jointly? Judith, I find that Ray watched and deleted Restless but he has recovered it for me. (You are probably now thinking that we don't communicate but I normally don't watch nailbiting things (reading is different) but he assures me it's not like that.)
I'm in for the book club. I love this shot...the haze, the clarity of the sheep, the softness. What a bummer re Adam's game and exams. I sure know the wake in the middle of the night thing. I did the same...worrying about how I can possibly get my camera gear on the plane to go to the Death Valley photography workshop I just signed up for and what to do with my clinets since it will mean I miss seeing them for three weeks straight. Yikes. I am tired. Maybe I need three good things
1) the fabulous sunrise this morning
2) that I get to go to this photography workshop I've been eyeing for 2 years
3) Jim's encouragement for me to go
Beautiful shot - love the atmosphere created by the fog. Sounds like you're really missing Rachel - she'll grow up a lot and will respect your advice more over the next year or two. My baby girl is 32 next month!
Love this fabulous shot...or is this actually the work of Manet or Pissarro?! An absolutely gorgeous and tranquil scene!
Happy anniversary to you and Nigel! I hope that you are able to celebrate in fine style once your household returns to normalcy. Hate to hear that Adam is still feeling punky with his upcoming schedule of BIG events. A suggestion ~ homemade chicken soup with garlic in the broth. I swear by the natural antibiotic properties of garlic...and chicken soup. :)
@helenmoss He announced at 6pm that he was ready for Eng Lit tomorrow except he didn't know any quotes!!! Emergency quote retrieval in a 'Neurofen' window required...sigh.
The sheep really make this shot, it's lovely and well done for getting such a good photo in today's weather. Sorry Adam's not well, hope he's better for the hockey competition. Jazz had her first county hockey today, is it at the same place - Coldham's Common?
Happy wedding Anniversary...and do stop worrying woman...or we're all going to have to lose sleep worrying about you!! LOL! Hope Adam is getting better (if a little high on drugs!). Really nice shot - it was a shocker of a day weather wise huh?
@katharinehubbard In the corner of the car park at Newnham Park there's a gate to a path that take you along the river to Newnham proper (and then on to Granchester Meadows). This is just along there & has featured a few times in fact. I couldn't really be bothered going anywhere either - Monty got a very boring short walk!
@lauralatham No it was Perse Girls today but normally it's at Wilberforce Road. He's missing the 2nd session of 3 to play for Cambs City in some big competition so he'll only get to train once with them and then probably one or two matches as he won't be integrated into the team so it's a bummer that he couldn't play - but he could hard sit upright. More cheerful today but still totally congested - I think he'll play in the tournament (touch wood) but he's going to be way off full fitness. Luckily indoor games are short...
Stunning. Love the tones, the reflections and the composition. I really hope Adam picks up soon, he has not had a good run with being sick. Happy Anniversary Judith! I hope the beef casserole was yummy.
Happy Anniversary.
