Flower and Brimstone

I've been trying to photograph a brimstone for three summers now but they never seem to land so I rather startled Rachel by shouting (quietly!), 'Stop!' when I saw this one at The Gogs this morning. Maybe they do land but they are just difficult to see when they do. Apparently they are the original 'butter' 'fly' - so called because of the butter colour of the male. They are also unusual in hibernating and, therefore, spending most of their lives as adults.
Three GT:
1. Another sunny day (bit too hot and humid actually)
2. Adam tells me his friends are in to Great British Bake Off so he wants to watch it - which pretty much means I've converted the whole family (though some haven't realised yet!)
3. I'm half way through painting the downstairs bathroom so apologies for catching up tomorrow as I need to crack on.
Looks all lovely and summery. Its not allowed as I'm back at work now...

The wings look like leaves to me - very good camouflage. I'd never spot it. :)

OoOOo well done, I was chasing butterflies the other day too, it was quite amusing.

I must read up about these butterflies...I am woefully ignorant about the life style of a butterfly disgraceful really when it's so easy to research. A lovely greeny shade with those delicate little spots.
GBBO is the best, even Harry watched out of the corner of his eye last week!

Beautiful colours.

Well captured! By the way look out for Clouded Yellows which are uncommon visitors but there are lots around at the moment - a definite egg yellow almost orange.

for a moment I did not spot him, beautiful capture,

He's amazingly well camouflaged. Well done for getting such a good shot. I'm watching GBBO whilst commenting. It's obviously the trendy thing to be watching!

You will also see the little blue butterflies at the Gogs! Watched the bake off, who are Adams friends? Love this shot, beautiful Brimstone. Lucky you to find this. Did you have a malteser slice afterwards?

@lucypics We were going to go there but R decided she was too hot & sweaty - but I'd forgotten to tell her about the Malteser slice or she would have revised that opinion!! Well it was one of Adam's friends - I think Ruby may have something to do with it!

It is really beautiful - havent seen one of these! I read up about the word butterfly - another variation is that they were once called flutterby!

He blends so well with the background I almost couldn't find it! I saw one in my garden recently but didn't know what it was. Well done - excellent capture.

It looks in grand shape for this time of the year. Our butterflies are starting to look a bit raggedy. Glad you caught this one, you can check that off your list of things to do!!

Great shot and I learned lots about brimstones, so thanks. We are a Great British Bakeoff family, Sam loves it, tho Angus isn't too fussed.
