A beautiful morning - too hot to have breakfast outside without shade - but I spent a large proportion of it in bed shops trying to find Adam a new mattress. It turns out that not only is he is really quite long for a normal size bed these days but that mattresses are really expensive. I know it's quite a while since we bought one and I wasn't going children's budget range as he isn't what you'd call child-sized - but blimey. As I was muttering on the topic Adam was pointing out that the man had just said the (single) one he was lying on had 1500 springs in it and if you looked at it that way.... Anyway - John Lewis budget range to the rescue I think. We then moved on to jackets as I was alerted by another parent that it's the thing the school is most strict about when it comes to 6th form uniform - and it's the one thing we haven't got. Very nice man in John Lewis gave us excellent advice on size (including the fact that they are out of stock of the required one!) so I am off to Debenhams' sale before I put him into care for being too expensive. Anyhow by the time Nigel and Monty and I hit the pavements it was chucking it down and feeling rather chilly but it conveniently cleared Jesus Green of picnickers. Just time to grab a quick bollard thing for the 'dirty' theme, watch a nice Red Arrows fly past in formation over the town and head for home with reluctant damp dog.
Three good things:
1. Online ordering
2. Real shops with beds you can lie on
3. The £1000 mattress which was incredibly comfortable - really amazing - I nearly stayed....
Great shot and love the dialogue it had me rolling with laughter. We looked at a new bed as u say the frame was fine but the mattress was over the moon!!!
Love your three things, always interesting or bring a smile. Your day always seems to leap along at an amazing pace yet somehow a photo opportunity mostly seems to appear! Well spotted.
I love your story - made me smile! Love your shot too - composition is excellent and the webb adds interest. Well spotted. I haven't posted today yet - have number 2 son round for dinner.
Just love the back story, Harry starts 6th form college tomorrow, and he suddenly annouced that he hadn't any clothes that fit, funny that as they did yesterday, and could we go shopping!! Lovely pic btw.
@jo13 We keep getting the 'nothing fits' malarkey too. The uniform is 'smart casual' - shirts, ties, chinos type thing so he considers those to be parental purchases...
How peculiar! I have to go mattress shopping for middle son (19) some time next week, providing his room gets tidy to a point I'm happy with. I do hope your #3 good thing isn't the price of 3' mattresses these days!! I love the paint on this, so many layers of different colours xx
@psychographer Well the sales seemed to be on till Tuesday so tell him to tidy up quick. You can spend £1000 on a single if you like (I was amazed). We struggled to get below £300 for something decent especially with delivery at £40 but in the end I've gone to an online place, ordered a pocket sprung with memory foam on top of the springs for about £160 I think with free delivery and I just hope it's comfortable and not too sweaty.
Your comments make me really smile and that is genuine, not just polite! We have a big problem with length of beds and always now get one one foot longer! I like this little picture of an interesting group of subjects!
Although I find your capture today a bit sad (think it's the 'and then it rained' caption signalling the end of the sunny days!) I really like it too!
And thank goodness the days of shopping for school uniform are long gone for me.
nice shot. We desperately need a new mattress but I can't bring myself to spend that much money on one. Angus has to wear a suit for 6th form. Good old Matalan came to the rescue.
£1000 for a mattress I would come down to Cambridge just to sit on that ....are these people real!!!
I thought at first you were in a different country than me...hot, I have forgotten the word already!!
Have just read your mattress solutions above & that sounds more like it!!
A lovely mixture of cobweb, ivy & paint peeling bollard should do the trick nicely for Dirty.

We keep talking about getting a new bed, but then we see how expensive they are. ;)
