Rachel and I drove Monty over to Newnham today with a view to her getting some parking practice in the playground car park before we walked Monty. As it was there were only 4 cars parked there because it's all being closed up until December for some reason - the evil council is probably putting Pay and Display in as it's the only free car park I can think of in the entire city. In all fairness it does get parked up with commuters which is really unfair but on the other hand if you want to traipse over to Granchester with small children as we've done on many a sunny afternoon you do need a good few hours there. I digress - two cars were parked a space apart so Rachel did get a bit of a shot at reverse parking (it's not in the test apparently) - much to the confusion of people wandering past with dogs I expect as we could have chosen any other of about 50 places, and then we went and did a bit of parallel parking in the village streets. This was not trivial as both sides of the road are parked up and it's very narrow and I'm afraid I wasn't a very calm instructor but she did well.
Three GT:
1. There is filming underway at St John's and the trailers for the stars are parked by Silver Street so we wandered over to the punt guys nearby to get the low down. It's a film about Stephen Hawking and he's going to be played by Eddie Redmayne. Even in his prime I don't think Stephen Hawking was exactly Redmayne material.
2. Rachel's hilarious Eddie Redmayne impression - afterwards I decided that they could actually make him look pretty geeky.
3. A bit more progress with Adam's room - any day now it will be tidy...
I'll put a pic of some film extras in Extras - it seems appropriate. http://365project.org/judithg/extras/2013-09-23
Bet she did better than me today. I had a parking rage. Got out of the car and shouted at people and everything. This is what happens when people block your drive just to pick up little jimmy from the school. Grrr
I think on second thoughts Edie Redmayne might make a quite decent Stephen Hawking...all to do with the mouth perhaps!
You are a star taking Rachel out practising & it is all about the practice even now parallel parking doesn't come easy!!
I thought at first this was a lady looking in a mirror ...looking close I see it is a guy with a mobile phone.......received a memo today from Vision Express saying a free eye test is due, I only got my new glasses in February...a con to make you but new ones! Perhaps they are right!
@fueast Ooh no - stand well clear. We used to get people saying, 'I'm only going in the paper shop....' My friend Tara got yellow lines put outside the private school by her flat - we still call them 'Tara stripes'.
My parking is still terrible. My driving instructor (& many others) used to use the local B&Q car park after it closed. They started locking it in the end. ;)
@happypat Yes actually I've seen some photos side by side & he does have a slightly strange look! Still think he's a bit too handsome but it'll be worth going to see the film!
I was very fortunate to have a dear neighbor who was a driving instructor and took both my kids to learn parallel parking. Since I haven't really done much of it since my driving test, it was a blessing. He also took them for their road tests and knew all the examiners. Both kids passed first try. But they are both good drivers, despite my influence.
Your pic has a very retro 60's feel to it judith...especially the colours ...when i say 60's take away the price of soup and the mobile and it is a 60's slide shot
Oh do I ever remember the teaching our kids to drive times! Enough to change the color of a lot of hairs. I agree re the retro feel...nice composition too
Nice image! Reverse parking not in the test?? It's all I ever seem to do! (but I learned initially in USA and it was called parallel parking and about the only thing we had to learn!)
