Well the river was very serene today and it made for good reflections. I am kicking myself because I normally shoot slightly under-exposed but I switched to auto for this and the whites are blown. I still like the elegant look though.
It was a whole lot less serene getting to the river though as a car shot out of a side street and attempted to enter the secondary school driveway across the road. I had to brake to avoid him but the car coming in the other direction didn't stand a chance. Luckily he was going reasonably slowly and he braked quite hard so when he crunched into the passenger door of the crossing car the only damage was to the vehicles. I pulled over and offered to be a witness but was quite surprised that nobody else stopped even to see if they were OK. The driver just sat in his car and said, 'I didn't see you,' to the man who had just unavoidably driven into him. I was tempted to say, 'No, because that would have involved looking.' His passenger didn't make any attempt to get out of the car either which was all rather odd and nobody acted on my suggestion that moving the cars from the middle of the road might be a good idea. Luckily the police arrived (by chance I think but maybe they were tipped off) and after a very brief look at the situation they jumped straight in the cars and moved them. Anyway I told them whose fault it was and gave them a business card which they said was very efficient (made me laugh because I never give them to anybody!) and I was given permission to return to Monty and my walk. I'm guessing that they might have got their breathalysers out because there was something definitely odd about the driver. The poor chap who hit him and was very kind and tolerant is off on holiday tomorrow and now has no car to go in.
Three GT:
1. No damage to people
2. The boys in blue
3. Just talking to my mum on the phone fixed my sewing machine so I could get on with making bunting for Rachel's house.
This is an amazing shot, took my breAth away when I spotted it! A total fav for,the white swan on a black background in a lovely pose. Well done you for stepping in to offer your details as a witness, we need more like you!! Business card, excellent.
@lucypics Well I was feeling grateful that I hadn't just driven into him as well. I'm trying to remember why I even had business cards in my pocket now - it was for some event that I didn't need them for anyway!!
@lucypics I've had the box of cards since we started in 2006 and I actually doubled the number I've given out today (1 to the policeman, 1 to the driver)! You're right though - I'm important!!!
Beautiful shot Judith - so graceful. Not so graceful car story though - it all sounds a bit weird. Thanks for passing on my Mary Berry apple cake recommendation - Sarah has posted a pic of it this evening. I made one today too but never thought to take a pic of it!
beautiful pose from the swan, I see what you mean about the white been blown out, we just learnt on the camera club better to have it to dark than too white as data can be retrieved from the black. lucky no one was hurt today, some people are so careless.
Goods thing he/she's got that dark mask on its proboscus or whatever that protuberance is ...saves the exposure. Great catch and super title!! Glad no one was hurt.
Oh, this is absolutely stunning, Judith! Elegant, graceful and artistic. A gorgeous shot! And good for you for being such a standup citizen and offering your help at the scene of the accident...so many people choose not to bother.
Such a beautiful clear reflection , and the pose is gorgeous. @lucypics poo bags and conkers! hilarious. Early in my project I did a shot of my pocket contents will tag you in it. Does all sound very suspicious re the driver/passenger Judith, I reckon your suspicions might be right
@jo13 It's gone down quite loudly!! It is very handy - it charges up quickly and then you can take it anywhere - down do the shed with the running machine in it in our case. A bit heavy on bass for my taste but I think that may be what boys are looking for!
@jo13 Also - I worry about the amount of headphone use so it's quite a good alternative. Mind you I think Adam was probably perfectly happy stealing his dad's speaker so it's probably less of a big deal than if he hadn't had one available before!
@jo13 You can plug it directly into the mains and it's got a docking station - so if it's sitting on that it's running off mains but you can lift it off and take it anywhere to run off the batteries - in the advertising film they're in a field being a bit festival!
Danny Kaye would like your tribute to his song Judith.....now I've got that Saturday morning Junior Choice song stuck in my head.....I suspect you are not old enough to remember Junior Choice :) :)
@judithg oh yes puff the magic dragon :) a classic, they don't write them like that anymore ...although i used to quite like "A Windmill In Old Amsterdam"....and last night at Goose Fair they were playing the "runaway train went down the hill" to a childrens train ride ...happy days :)
Narcissus in the guise of a swan. Perfect! Glad to hear the two drivers were ok but I would not have wanted to be the guy who drove into the other without it being his fault. I hate accidents (who doesn't?).
Well this is rather lovely, blown whites or no. It does look like just like the poor ugly duckling having his moment of realisation (never quite made sense to me that story, because cygnets are cuter even than ducklings, but still. I suppose they do go through that weird feathery adolescence.)
