I had a fab day in London with my sister. We did quite a lot of lunching/dinnering and in between got a bit cultured. The primary reason for the trip was to see the Lowry Exhibition at Tate Britain and it was excellent. Lots of paintings and some interesting background about the French influence on his work. Unfortunately the vast majority of Tate Britain is being refurbished so there were fairly limited numbers of general pictures on display. I gravitated towards this exhibit though - probably about 50 photos taken in the 1970's of people walking their dogs in the neighbourhood of the photographer. They are all taken with the permission of the dog walkers who posed in very similar ways (that was part of the point of the exhibit - the way that people respond to the camera). It occurred to me that I have been missing a trick! Mind you I think people were happier to have their photos taken by strangers in pre-internet days -maybe - maybe I should try asking?!
Three GT:
1. My sister
2. 2 for 1 offers with National Rail - I have never thought of looking for that offer for art exhibitions but they are included.
3. Galleries that allow photographs (though not in the exhibitions where they want to sell the guide book!)
Yes I 'd like to go to this exhibition but won't make it now before it closes. May go instead to the Chagall exhibition at the Tate Modern. Do you know anything about his work? Nice capture btw.
I love this capture, and thanks for the reminder about the Lowry exhibition - must try and get there, though with term on the doorstep now, am not sure that will happen. I really enjoyed seeing his work in Manchester some years ago.
Like your editing. Is that your sister?? A guy once did a charity calender of dog walkers in meanwood park. I was in it but it sold so fast I never got to see a copy!
I am glad @fueast asked that question ......I though it was rather too young for either of you two sisters, lovely though you are!!!!!!
Fascinating photos but all rather posed & stiff but of a different era.
I have said to myself I am going to London on my own specifically to got to The National Gallery, I have never been round any of the art galleries ever.
@happypat Oh Pat really? You should go round the corner to the National Portrait Gallery as well - my favourite. Tate Britain is great but I'd wait till they finish the work.
WOW Judith what a fabulous idea for a photography project ..although I don't think I would have the confidence to take a ask and take a portfolio of the "dog walkers of Arnold" ...although there are plenty to take in our neighbourhood...then again I'm on nodding and talking terms with many of them ...Ruby is one of 3 whippets in Arnold...back to your pic...gr8 post processing and the hint of colour on the ladies stripy outfit(your sister ?) is a touch of genius ..Faved :)
I think there was something about this exhibition in the Guardian - they had a few of the photos, which did look quite posed. I really like the way they're displayed - almost demanding to be photographed!
sounds like a nice day, I played with that idea while walking Cookie as I always have my camera, I feel people are more friendly when you also have a dog. Similar interest I suppose. breaks the barriers.
