Army cadets have been on duty all across the country today for Remembrance Sunday services. And afterwards they needed sustenance - in this case in a new Sicilian cafe called Aromi. It almost always has a queue and they cook the food in an area behind the man serving so you can watch them at work through the window. My Italian teacher at school was a small Sicilian lady who, as a quite young teenager, was summoned by the Nazis to translate during their interrogations. Remarkably often for a talented linguist she made mistakes when translating answers so that people did not land themselves or others in trouble. Despite her obvious bravery she played it down and said it was worth it for the bars of chocolate she received.
Three GT:
1. Small acts of heroism
2. Remembering
3. A glorious November day
I do like this shot, love the detail of what's through the glass and the reflections. I've stolen your idea of 3 good things each day and am doing it in my diary!
What a lovely story Judith and I too celebrate small acts of heroism such as this. Love this shot, it reminds me of one you took over a year ago I think of a lovely girl in FitzBillies through the window. It's a nice way of contributing to Remembrance Sunday.
I love this look through the window of Aromi's. So perfect for Remembrance Day. Such a wonderful story regarding your Italian instructor...cheers to the heroes and heroines and all of their heroic acts!!
i like the way the young cadet has her eye on some tasty Sicilian morsel ....a super shot Judith and a lovely story about your Italian teacher ....Li ricorderemo (I think that's a literal translation)
