I was in London with Nigel for my birthday. We went to the photography exhibition (small one) at Getty Images and then on the The Science Museum to see 'Only in England'. Well worth the entrance fee - loads of photos for your money and a fascinating collection. I must admit (maybe I'm a lightweight) I liked the larger prints, by both Tony Ray-Jones and Martin Parr. All taken within our lifetimes (and not while we were THAT young either) and yet vastly different to today. As the terrible rain had stopped we walked from South Kensington to meet our very good American friends in Mayfair. There are some very lovely residential areas on that route - very liveable if you have a couple of million. Harrods was looking at its festive best with an 'Orient Express' theme in the windows. Taking a photo was a nightmare, courtesy of a stream of buses but I grabbed a quick panorama from the island in the middle of the road.
Three GT:
1. Not feeling too much older.
2. Photography
3. Long- term, long-distance, enduring friendships.
You did well with this panoramic shot of Harrods in lights. Beautiful!
A belated very happy birthday, Judith!!! Sounds like you spent the day in a wonderful way! I love your three good things.
Well Happiest of Birthdays! Great shot of Horrids - isn't it fun to whizz around? It's dead opulent, but the staff are really friendly and helpful - an assistant in the jewellery section gave me a catalogue of his company's wares just because I said I liked them, despite the fact that I told him I could never justify £45.000 for a pair of (admittedly beautiful) ear-rings!
And isn't the Ray-Jones/Parr Exhibition wonderful? I found it inspiring, as well as a trip down memory lane! I love Martin Parr's work, he's so clever, he makes what must be "snapped" shots look as if he set them up. What a long way I have to go!
Happy Birthday! I'm glad you had a lovely day. This picture really makes me want to jump on the train to London and go and see both the exhibition and Harrods window . . .
A wonderful shot of all the splendour that is Harrods..you did well here, the cars & buses always get in the way don't they?
Sounds a perfect day for a birthday.....a little bit of everything you like & a celebration tea too. That exhibition sounds very interesting....must be great to live near enough to London just to pop for the day!!
Happy Birthday Judith...I think some of the 365'ers ...well many of them....could give Martin Parr a run for his money....and that's not being disrespectful to Martin Parr
Happy birthday for then! Nice Harrods view. Oh yes, some of our fave bits of fantasy dream home land - we always walk up to the Royal Albert Hall from South Ken and imagine what it would be like to fall out of an evening's Prom into one of the fabulous mansion blocks around there and put the kettle on.
