I have been tied to my kitchen today enjoying the pre-Christmas Day preparations. I took this at the beginning when I had a bit more vim and vigour than I do now - I'm tired not because of the cooking but because of the lack of sleep during the noisy storm last night. Anyway: parsnip soup - tick, parsnips prepared - tick, sprouts prepared - tick, stuffing prepared - tick, Tunis cake (a la Mary Berry) - tick, sausage rolls - tick, mince pies - tick, fish pie for tonight's tea in the oven - tick. Too much sherry - tick. Just the turkey to stuff etc and it will wait in the cold oven out of the way of cats etc, coming to room temp for tomorrow's kick off.
Wishing you all a fabulous day tomorrow - I'll check in tomorrow afternoon at some point I imagine.
Three GT:
1. We have power and are warm and dry
2. Two lots of my favourite friends dropped in ths afternoon.
3. There was a radio programme this morning in which a contributor said, 'The day can't possibly live up to the hype.' And Rachel said, 'Yes it can, mine always does.' Awww - who'd have thought it. :0)
Aha! I recognise that Delia book! Good old Delia, good old Mary Berry -you can't beat 'em! Very impressed with your military campaign! It's the only way.
Sounds like you have everything well under controll....bet your parsnip soup is good, one of my favourites. Wishing you and your family a very Happy Christmas.
You must be doing it all right Judith....your Rachel will run her own house one day on the exact copy of her mums...that is the way customs & traditions carry on....a wonderful thought don't you think?
I have only a turkey to cook but just talked to Jo in NZ ..their Christmas morning & now I am completely befuddled with the times this turkey has to be in. The guy said 25 mins to a pound but then we reckoned that would be almost ten hours , surely not right! Perhaps he meant per kg...will have to get the book out!! Oh dear!!
Wonderful Judith - you are so well organised! If you were here, you could just untick all of those things!!! Have a wonderful Christmas and a better night's sleep! It was awful here last night too didn't sleep a wink! Probably fall asleep in my Christmas dinner! : ))
Lots of ticks in your narrative judith....i am sure your detailed prep worked a treat. Merry Christmas to you and your family.... btw ...watched carols from kings yesterday....thought of you and your 365 and gave jane a detailed analysis of info gained fron your pics and narratives...i think jane was impressed :-)
That sounds amazing! I'm glad I can still eat at my family's dinner without having to cook anything myself ;). The first time I actually tried parsnips was when I made a mush for Little J ;)). I hope you all had a very merry christmas :).
I love this shot. I always make this recipe, every Christmas without fail but strangely only ever do it once a year! It's so delicious I ought to do it more often xx
