A Boxing Day tradition in the pretty village of Granchester just outside Cambridge. The first four races are all village teams (mostly pubs) and then the last couple are open to other villages. You have to pay attention as a spectator because the barrels not exactly under control at all times. It was not, for the most part a close run thing - especially the Ladies' race which expose some interesting techniques.
Three GT:
1. Lots of pubs in Granchester
2. Meeting friends and ticking off something which has bbeen on my 'to do' list for a long time.
3. The rest of the crew having a really good time at the West Ham - Arsenal game. They are 'neutral' in terms of support but as Rachel said they were supporting the hammers for safety reasons #inthehomestand
Hee hee what fun! I think that could be quite a hit up here with a distillery down the road!
And loved catching up with your gorgeous Christmas (and Birthday) pictures.
Lovely cake and your Dad looks great!
it's a fab pic Judith.....almost timeless as there is not a lot in the image that dates it ..apart from the 'health and safety' guy in the 'high vis' ...i like the lady in the red coat
Love these traditions. I took part in the Stilton Cheese Rolling (teams of 4 in fancy dress) for a couple of years in the early 80's - madness. In the year we won we were awarded a very large chicken - very useful for 4 single blokes :)
Oh, we were there too - but didn't see you! I was the one muttering "they're straw, not hay" every time the commentator warned kids not to sit on the "hay bales" for fear of being knee-capped by a runaway barrel!
