Just a quick filler as we spent the day car shopping for Rachel. I'm not sure how we came to agree to get her a car as I would rather not have her driving between Birmingham and Coventry through the winter - the trouble is that you only get experience driving by doing it.... Anyway - we at least narrowed down what we're looking for - now to head up North to get the best price.
How exciting for Rachel.....I agree about the practise & you don't want her to lose her feel for driving...difficult to let them out on the big wide roads...or even worse narrow ones! Will it mean motorway driving......now that is scary! Going North to buy...still a northerner at heart then Judith!!
Lovely red Santa hats...how festive they make a photo!
@padlock Now that would be my son's choice! Her criterion was 'small'. Mine was safe. My husband's was cheapest we can get away with for motorways etc. So we are looking for a Toyota Aygo - insurance group 1! I would have liked a VW Up as they score very well for safety but they are too new - we can't get an old enough one! Yes some motorways @happypat - the journey scares me - I may never sleep again!!
nice one Judith...we all give in to getting cars for our children....Jane talked me into getting our daughters cars for their 21st ...Two Nissan Micra's made a dent in our bank balance :) ....Toyota Aygo sounds good.....one thing about the A45 between Birmingham and Coventry...its full of speed camera's ...in fact the most of the West Midlands seems to be a speed camera zone.....so no chance of speeding
We've just swapped our automatic car for a manual Aygo for Ellen to learn in and so far we're very pleased with it. The idea of her driving herself around is pretty scary, but the idea of some of her friends driving her around is even worse!
I hear what you're saying. My daughter is utterly capable and I'm sure a very good driver but I still get the eeebie jeebies about her driving on her own. It's something we, as parents have to get used to and trust their judgement I guess xx
We haven't got the Toyota Aygo here in the states...it looks adorable. I drive a 2001 Toyota Avalon that we bought used with 50k miles on it. It is up to 176k and I still love it. Bought our daughter a Toyota Echo in 2002 and it has served her well. Both still going strong (thank goodness!). My next car will definitely be a Toyota.
Cycle by doesn't really sound that safe either ;). I wish I had had more driving experience before moving to Frankfurt because now that I haven't done it for 10 years I can't really drive anymore and have to learn it again :(.
