Tree of knowledge

I spotted some lovely red dogwoods coming home from the supermarket at lunch time and thought I would park up a distance away and then walk Monty over, but en route I spotted a tree with little cards hanging from the branches and changed my destination. All of the cards have little stories or fun facts on them - there's one about a cat called Sedgewick who got into a power substation, blacked out Cambridge, trapped some old ladies in a lift and arrived home looking 'like a burned tyre' and other more philosophical ones about 'classes of intellectual pleasure'. One of then says 'Happy happy birthday' and another 'Happy rubber duck independence day' (there is also a rubber duck hanging on the tree) 'with branches of fondness, Sylvie'. So I think it is a very elaborate and thoughtful birthday surprise. Looks like the sort of thing @arefin would set up!
On the subject of surprises I started the day with an invitation to the secret '20 years a head teacher' assembly at the primary school. This governor business is great - I love a bit of subterfuge…
Three GT:
1. Our wonderful head teacher who is not allowed to retire just yet (or ever if Michael Gove has his way!)
2. Random acts of kindness that make everybody feel happy.
3. Another 'fast' day almost complete. I am just hanging on as late as possible before I have my
Your what???? Don't keep us hanging... Amazing story about this hedgehog. A friend of mine once put her kid's kitten through a cycle...

@fueast It keeps deleting the end of my blurb - I've typed it in twice now - I know I go on but I don't expect random editing. Well I'm not doing it again - you'll have to guess!

Ooh you must have exceeded some sort of word count limit. You'll have to learn to summarise.
January 10th, 2014
Hehheeh you girls are so funny! @fueast @judithg A most interesting idea!!
January 10th, 2014
Jam donut? Yes this is a bit arefinesk. Poor hedgehog, not sure I want to think of it :-( anyway I suppose it had a happy ending.
January 10th, 2014
Excellent shot and idea. Keep going.
January 10th, 2014
Oh the suspense is killing me! ;)
The tree sounds great. Love the tones in this too.

Tea?
Perhaps you daren't even let the food word pass your lips!!!
I wonder if I should try that diet ...I am going nowhere with mine...at this rate I will have to sign on at weightwatchers again!
How lovely the human race is at times....love the sound of this tree & your photo shows the hanging card to perfection.
January 10th, 2014
Oh, did you pass out from hunger before the last words??? ! The message is a bit traumatic but at least the hedgehog survived!
January 10th, 2014
A very unusual find! Nice shot
January 10th, 2014
First poo of the day? Seems worth hanging on if you aren't getting any calories in :-)
January 10th, 2014
Actually now I'm thinking you should make this unfinished story line a feature of your posts. Might keep us amused for hours....
January 10th, 2014
I'm thinking, "bath"? Wouldn't those notes on the tree get wet? I've heard of this idea - there is the "wishing" tree; the "memory" tree; the "friends and family away" tree!
January 10th, 2014
...chardonnay and bubble bath? Love everything about this post. The message/story/knowledge tree is such a delightful and whimsical idea. I love it! And I love the photo. Such care was taken with the presentation...lovely handwriting and bow.
January 10th, 2014
@fueast Oh go on - lower the tone!! @lucypics That is not helping!
January 10th, 2014
@happypat It's feeling very difficult at the moment - last time I woke up because I was dreaming that I was eating an ever growing bar of chocolate - one of those that is milk chocolate on the bottom and white on the top. Oh what am I doing even thinking about it. And the mention of chardonnay doesn't help either @peggysirk !!
January 10th, 2014
@maggiemae Magic faraway tree?
January 10th, 2014
@judithg Can always be relied upon...
January 10th, 2014
Great focus, great story too!
January 10th, 2014
....naked man-servant bring me my dinner. Am I close?
January 10th, 2014
Wow, what an interesting find and a cool capture.
January 10th, 2014
How precious!
January 10th, 2014
@malc Close!
January 10th, 2014
@lucypics dammit! I was just about to say doughnut.

I love your 3GT today, especially number two
January 10th, 2014
@jantan Not you as well! Just hanging in there by filling up with calorie free decaf coffee :0(
January 10th, 2014
@jantan you could say French Fancies ......
January 10th, 2014
mmmm French fancies........ I am struggling myself with the smell of a loaf that is jut about to come out of the bread maker
January 10th, 2014
@judithg @jantan tomorrow is the day .... It was going to be Monday but that has happened every day and will do until I get my Lardy self to weight watchers!
January 10th, 2014
@lucypics well every time I open FB that gorgeous looking cake is at the top of my feed! Of course I can eat what I want tomorrow - according to the theory - but according to the theory I should be losing weight....
January 10th, 2014
@judithg so what do you eat on a fast day?
January 10th, 2014
@lucypics not enough! 500 calories however you want. I have 100 at lunch time and 400 at dinner time - I've bought M&S so I don't have to calculate the calories. But oh I could eat that cake!
January 10th, 2014
very surreal message here - and Judith, I'm with you - Today I had carefully weighed out porridge (150), 2 rice cakes, sardines and undressed coleslaw salad (230 ish) and a banana and tea with milk for supper, otherwise black coffee and water - roll on tomorrow and work provided bacon butties.

Lots of people I know are swearing by this - currently I'm swearing.
January 10th, 2014
Us definitely Arefinesque
January 11th, 2014
I love the tree of knowledge idea - but how on earth did a hedgehog get in with the washing and not get noticed?
January 11th, 2014
Jo
Great picture, great thread, great read........you could just head 500 calories worth of cake, just the one mouthful then!!!
January 11th, 2014
I love it! I also immediately thought of @arefin
January 11th, 2014
@shannejw How many calories in milk in tea? Wonder if I'm going over my limit? I believe it can take a while to 'kick in' - hopefully not too long!
January 11th, 2014
Love the card tree and all the stories. Plus all the comments today!
January 11th, 2014
@judithg the semi-skimmed milk I'm drinking is 50 calories (kcal) per 100ml. I bothered measuring how much milk I wanted in a mug of tea just now and it was two tablespoons - 30ml - so 15 calories.
January 11th, 2014
@shannejw Aah thanks - better watch that :0(
January 11th, 2014
lucky hedgehog i say :)
January 11th, 2014
ooh, where is this tree - I have to see it. Eek on the 500 cals thing - that's tough!
January 12th, 2014
@helenmoss on the Backs by Clare - very grumpy on fast days.....!
January 12th, 2014
Wonderful find if a little peculiar xx
