In the spirit of adventure (!) we decided to drive up to Bamburgh village itself and approach the castle from the north instead of walking towards it from the south. This decision was partly because of the lovely photo on our cottage wall which was taken from the north and partly because there was rain threatening and we thought we may need to beat a retreat. As it was we did get a very short shower but it was dry again by the time we were ready to sit outside a cafe for lunch. The castle is really very impressive indeed close up and the village is pretty too. And I nipped in to the Grace Darling museum which is small but perfectly formed. Once up there we realised we were close to Lindisfarne and made the pigrimage across to the isalnd - more in Extras hopefully. Meanwhile the dinner's been cooked, the washer is full and I intend lying in a darkened room for a while - a whole week of very disturbed sleep courtesy of Monty not settling, Monty getting some sort of stomach upset and (just when Monty had decided he would sleep all night) a faulty smoke detector....has taken its toll but I am looking forward to catching up with you all tomorrow.
Fav Judith......have missed you, wondered where you were hanging out! Poor Monty & everyone.....let him sleep on your bed!! Ha ha!
We approached Bamburgh from the north too when we visited in May...a very pretty village I had never seen before.
Love your moody shore photo.....perfect in sepia. A very impressive castle!
@happypat I've been putting loads of photos on FB Pat - have they not been showing again? It's a weird thing. Didn't dare let Monty out near a carpet with his dodgy tummy!!! Thanks for the fav!!
Judith , this is STUNNING. Up there with your best shots. You just hsve to print and mount / frame this. One to be proud of. Well worth the trip up north for. Faved
@judithg I knew you were on holiday but not where you had gone......haven't seen you on FB for ages.....might be me should have asked Jack last night, might have de friended you again! Will check enjoy your hols!
Wow, this is really beautiful indeed - looove the sky! Instant fav for me, too. Man, sounds like you really deserve some rest - you get even less sleep than I do... holding my fingers crossed that it gets better soon!
Love the composition with the footprints in the sand leading into the shot. Great sky too.
When we visited here, it was raining so hard, we couldn't see the castle. :)
fabulous. love it. FAV. the clouds are so dramatic, then the marks in the sand leading to the formation and it looks like a person. exquisite. the tones in the sky are just yummy. the shot is amazing.
Fabulous shot Judith, and definitely worth the PP. Fav for me too. I remember seeing Bamburgh Castle for the first time in the film 'Becket', and being determined to see it in real life - and it didn't disappoint.
Fabulous. We're near Pickering this week and off to Bamburgh to celebrate our silver wedding next week! Small world. Really intense brooding shot this one. Has to be a fav.
very dramatic sky - the church at Bamburgh is interesting too - lots of Grace Darling and St Aidan (I stopped there en route from Newcastle to Lindisfarne)
