Winter Casualty

I found this Great Blue Heron carcass yesterday, face down in the swamp. The feathers had still retained their water-shedding capabilities. Poor old fellow! No doubt, a fox or coyote will scavenge the corpse in due time.

Awww sad. I transported an injured one to a bird rescue a couple weeks ago and his femur was broken so badly he had to be put to sleep. Beautiful shot of his feathers with the water drops.
