Dung Fungus by julienne1

Dung Fungus

I don't suppose may people spend their time photographing cow dung! Ah well.....I do. This is a Dung Fungus, Coprobia granulata, which grows in clusters on cow dung that has been left for a while until it's a bit crusty. The biggest of the discs in this picture is about 2mm across. Fascinating eh?
Wow, this is so amazing it's hard to believe in isn't photoshopped!

...or is it.

When I first saw this I was reminded of Venus Flytraps, but when I read they were 2mm I thought wow, now that is a clos up - Fav

@ziggy77 @rupert @dmcoile @777margo thanks for the comments @hilarymeme - yes they do look a bit like venus flytraps! I can't find any material online that describes what the "eyelashes" around the rim are for - but I would imagine they are probably an aid to trapping spores and guiding them onto the fertile surface of the disc.
