Rose Chafer beetle (Cetonia aurata) by julienne1

Rose Chafer beetle (Cetonia aurata)

This lovely bug is an amazing iridescent green colour, and about 2cm long. Apparently the larvae of this beetle are very good for the soil, making very good compost as they rummage around in the decaying leaf litter. However, what is not so good is that the adults eat rose leaves.
Wow, what great detail, love the light shining on his body.

@shirleybankfarm it was the light reflected off his body that made me notice him!

@novab - yes it really did shimmer. The strange thing was I had just been looking at iridescent glass jewellery at a craft fair and when I first spotted him I thought it was a piece of jewellery!

@thewatersphotos - yes it is very well armoured!

@susanalena - yesit almost doesn't look real!
