In February I posted a photo of this field just after it had been ploughed http://365project.org/julienne1/365/2015-02-17 . I took this photo this morning on my mobile phone (forgot my camera!), It was sown with forage Maize in May and now it is sprouting. It also shows how rough and stony the soil is on top of the hill at High Ham! Quite a contrast with the wet peaty moorland down the hill on the Somerset Levels. The windmill in the background is Stembridge mill owned by the National Trust.
Windmills in England? I had no idea! It is amazing those hardy little maize seedlings can push their way through all that stony ground..... where there is a will, there is a way!
@katrinastabback - yes there are a few, but mostly on the Eastern side of the UK in Norfolk and Suffolk where it is flat and windy. There are very few still working and lots have fallen into disrepair or have been converted into dwellings! This one is the only one left in England with a thatched roof.
