Not a very inspiring name for what is quite an attractive water course! It's a man-made drainage channel constructed in 1791 which carries water diverted from the River Cary across King's Sedgemoor and into the River Parrett near Bridgwater. In November I posted a picture from more or less the same position showing it in the Autumn http://365project.org/julienne1/365/2014-11-10
Thank you for this. Have often seen the sign for it on the M5 on our way to visit /take Alona to Exeter Uni. Never had time to stop and explore. Now I wish we had. Very colourful at this time of the year.
This is just stunning, an instant Fav, and your Autumn shot even better. It makes me want to jump on a plane and start capturing the Northern Hemisphere, lovely Julienne ..... :)
@bkbinthecity - it is an interesting history when you start to read up about it. The whole issue of flooding and drainage on the Somerset Levels has been a political nightmare for centuries!
@woofandweft1 - that's the problem with motorways .... they are wonderful for getting you somewhere fast but you do miss lots of interesting stuff on the way!
@katrinastabback - thanks! That's the beauty of 365 ... you see all sorts of place that you'd like to visit. I often want to jump on a plane to visit places you post too!
