It's hard to believe that these delicate flowers erupt into the wild and tangled feathers that give it the name Old Man's Beard. It's native in the UK and most people enjoy it, but I gather that in New Zealand where it was introduced it has become a rampant pest! It's just one example of how an introduced plant changes its ecological behaviour outside its native environment to become an invasive problem.
That's interesting. Old Man'sBeard is pampant all over the banks onthe by pass in the Autumn. I think its lovely, and so is this flower which I will now go out and look for. Thank you for all your holiday snaps. Really enjoyef the trip!
A lovely capture of this beautiful flower. In the south, we have a similar flower. After the blooms they turn into a small, round pod. It usually blooms in May so they call it the May Pop. Children wait for the pods to step on them and hear them pop. So many similarities and differences.
