Wild rose hips

The rose hips are starting to ripen nicely. I can feel a batch of rose hip syrup coming on! I think the ladybird is lying in wait hoping for some nice fat aphids - but I couldn't see any so I think it's out of luck!

I do love to see the rose hips in the hedgrows, but have never quite come to terms with rose hip syrup!

Lovely close up shot. Looks like a good place to shelter if you a ladybird, camouflaged by colour.

@gijsje I've never tried rose hip jam but it sounds interesting! I may look up a recipe :)

@woofandweft1 - like many people of my age, I was brought up on it! I think that in the post war years people were encouraged to give it to kids because of its very high Vitamin C content. Now vitamin C is easier to come by and sugar is rather a "no-no"! I think it's delicious! I use it as a pour on syrup for fruit, ice cream etc and sometimes diluted as a drink.
