Pittisporum seed case by julienne1

Pittisporum seed case

I've never tried growing this from seed but apparently it's worth doing. From what I've read you have to collect the seeds (which are very sticky), rub them in detergent, rinse them and dry them out before planting... which seems a bit odd because mother nature seems to cope without all that!
Ha ha I agree, sometimes we interferer to much with nature. Interesting looking seeds, I have never heard of this plant before. Nice close up shot.

Never heard of Pittisporum. Does it grow in your own garden?

Sounds like too much effort, go for the natural way

They grow like weeks over here and there are different varieties! The birds go nuts.

Great shot. Doesn't look very appetizing, even for the birds.

Hahaha, I always have similar thoughts when I get extremely complex instructions on how to grow some seed. Great shot!

@shirleybankfarm @gijsje - Pittisporum is a useful shrub which is often used by flower arrangers because of the attractive leaves. We have several varieties in our garden, but my favourite is a silver variegated one which gives a nice colour contrast to the predominant green.

@katrinastabback - strangely I never see the birds going for these seeds ....ours must be fussy!

@rickster549 - no they certainly don't seem appetising, much to glutinously sticky!

@nitrogene - yes, I'm sure they have good reason for all those complex instructions but I prefer to keep it natural and simple even if that means less success :)
