Limestone brash

This is what most of the soil in High Ham is like. There appears to be more stone than soil! It's only really noticeable at this time of year when fields like this one are ploughed and made ready for fodder crops like maize. It looks very poor and unpromising, and yet the maize planted here will grow quite happily, and the meadow grass in adjoining fields looks green and luscious.
Never mind the stones, look at the sky.

Our soil is chalk and flint and I can barely get the spade into it without a ringing sound! Still...this makes for a nice layered pic.
