Living fossil

Horsetails are interesting plants. A relative of ferns, they are ancient spore-producing plants that are similar to the giant horsetails that would have been around 270 million years ago. More recently, in Ancient Greek and Roman times, it was used to treat wounds, as a diuretic, and to stop bleeding.
