I watched this Great White Egret as he fished early this morning just after dawn. It was fascinating as he held that long white neck at a crazy angle, swaying to and fro, watching the movement underwater with one eye before darting suddenly to catch a fish. The fish in this picture was quite large and it was strange watching the bulge in that neck as it went down. Great White Egrets are still rare in the UK - having nested here for the first time in 2012 on a reserve in Somerset. There are now several pairs nesting here on the Somerset Levels and they are always a delight to see.
