Gum Diggers Shacks.. by julzmaioro

Gum Diggers Shacks..

Before the weather turned rubbish today I had a chance to get a shot of Dargaville from the Museum.. looking out over the old Gum Digger Shacks.. Dargaville was a major source of Kauri Gum and wood so the Museum has made a static display depicting how it was done back in the day.. You can see the Northern Wairoa river which is fondly known as the Upside down river due to it colour.. It is like this all the time.. rumour has it that it is clear on the bottom... Old wives tale I think..
Nice view of the township and river. Those are cute wee replicas of the gum diggers' shacks.

Imagine living in a shack like that. They contrast well with the modern buildings in the distance.

Lovely shot at least the people who lived in the shacks had a fabulous view.
