I was in Christchurch to attend the autumn seed swap of the seed saving group I have been involved with for untold years. I delivered a talk about the whys hows and wherefores of seed-saving to try and inspire others to do so and keep the unique seedlines we hold going. I showed them photos of my garden and managed to talk for 2 whole hours, it was an unusual outing for me and I really enjoyed it.
I'll bet your talk was extremely interesting, wish I could have heard it. I imagine that seed saving helps to preserve and continue "heirloom" varieties of fruits and veg, often so much more delicious than today's modern hybrids.
Fantastic. We have planted heritage varieties this year . I am amazed by how beautiful and vigorous they are and wonder why they went out of fashion. Managed to save some seeds as well.
@steveandkerry good for you, the diversity is a source of amazement to me, they only go out of fashion because the seed companies dictate what you can buy, and so many have been lost already. people like you and me have to actually apply ourselves to saving the seeds to keep them alive, that was what my talk was about really.
Great shot, nice to see people sharing their seeds. We are not avid gardeners but when we do plant things, the tastiest and most productive vegetables come from seeds we have saved or had given to us.
