the finality of it all, when the last bit of the wave turns and crashes down, I feel sad for Emily, whoever she may be, but being rocked by loving arms soothes the pain...
@spanner@frankhymus I find it very interesting actually. It could be a good discussion starter .
Frank, you are entitiled to your opinion but to call a picture lame without giving a reason is bad critique!!!
Others seem to have got the intended emotion behind this shot and the words that went with it, whereas you dont seem to have, (or maybe you think my picture doesnt really convey it well.?) I suspect a certain emotional illiteracy, but perhaps that is an unkind thing to say, as i (deliberately) didnt reveal the whole story up front.
I suspect the reason i dont find your photos particularly interesting in general is they are technically good, cerebral exercises the way you describe them but in my opinion prosaic and lifeless. i prefer images that speak to me in emotional terms, Each to their own.
@terrinorthwind Thankyou Terri, I am glad that you can respond so personally with my photo. I lost one of mine albeit at the age of 23, my heart definitely responded to the story as well.
@frankhymus what you are calling sloppy technique was a deliberate choice. For me thinking of a child drowning and lost in the sea is hurtful, I chose a soft image purposefully to try to express a spiritual side of that harsh reality
@kali66 technique is not sloppy if it deliberate, which this is. It is also creative and expressive. The constant drive for perfection is often sought by people who cannot create or imagine so go for technique over substance. You can teach a person to play a musical instrument, you cannot teach them to be a musician. Let this go. Frank is/was wrong on many levels. Don't get into a slagging match. He does this for different reasons than you do. He has taken his coment down, let it go. Continue to do your thing and be true to your values.
With the technology available today anyone (even a noob) can take a technically "perfect" image. But what is perfction? All down to taste.
This is a lovely soft image Kali. Please don't get upset by what has been said. He obviously doesn't understand your photography. Don't let him put you off from doing what you want to do. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
@shepherdmanswife all good, I liked this episode, it made me think clearly about what i do and why and how, I'm happy being me. and he is happy being him... fine.

It is very difficult for me to bring a contribution to the discussion. Nevertheless, I try. My English is not so good and I hope I have understood everything.
If you allow, then here I write down my thoughts (beg your indulgence for my inelegant English):
I am a very visual type: I take priority visually perception. I have the image "for Emily" seen, read the lyrics later. Gradually the comments. And I realized that there is a dispute over image and design statement.
One might think: It is in the eye of the beholder, what is nice. By this is meant that each individual for himself decides what is beautiful and good. Accordingly, there is nothing binding. This would - in my opinion - the point of this community questioned when sharing his pictures with others. I think that we want to appeal other with our pictures, also want to touch. I think there is something common that we share human - our thoughts and feelings. I think we long for approval, agreement, we would be understood, to be perceived, the highest in this search and our aspirations is love.
And now for Image: This image combined with the background I am very touched. I think that has been decided here very properly. Whether recording was so or was only edited already, is irrelevant: This image lives on the light-dark, this is distributed very impressive in format. It flows gently through the image - a movement like breathing the sea. Very, very nice, I find the tones - a modulating between blue, white, very delicate dark brown green. The format is divided and subdivided beautifully as surface - the proportions between the various masses are very nice. I like the big wave in the foreground, which is in decline, and the distant wave later that is forming. Very finely indicated the horizon. I'm so, I hear as it were sound of the waves, their lift and fade away. Very, very good is the "blur". It is in this case in no way deficient technique but a very correct decision and achieved excellent.
This image is considered very sensitive. It's magical.
A huge fav
Another postscript: In my view, this is a beautiful and touching statement to his cause. Content and form of sound together. The breathing of the sea - the constant recurrence, the rhythm of life - a very nice tribute to the Extinct. She ist still alive... in a special way...
little 2 year old Emily was swept away in a river near here just over a week ago, unfortunately the search has been called off now and her mother may never find her, she has probably been swept out to sea. I didnt know her, but I have dreamed it,
