Two years ago, I took my first photo of a field of Queen Anne's Lace with my cell phone camera. A year later, by then with a Nikon, I wrote a poem about the transformation photography has made in my life. I forgot, till this recent sunrise scene, that I had written that poem. Here it is:
IT STARTED WITH QUEEN ANNE
By Kareen King
It started with Queen Anne, Queen Anne
It started with Queen Anne
She, burgeoned in haze-laden lace,
Sprawled along the meadow
Sun rising from the east
Casting its golden rays along the hillside
Bringing Queen Anne to life
Anne awakened my blind eyes to morning adventures
Dawning each new day with uncommon treasures
The brilliant, carroty Trumpet Vine
Violet dew drops clinging for dear life to the spindly Spiderwort
Mullein, erect, birthed from velvet foundation
Blackbirds chirping, strutting, flitting
Widow Skimmer alighting on cattails, near adjacent pond
Cardinals dashing from limb to limb
Milkweed birthing feathery, glistening white fluff in a jumble of seed
Ebbing and flowing
Waxing and waning
Evolving and escaping
From glory to glory
Unforeseen splendor unveiling itself
In a flurry of wonder
Transforming my life
It started with Queen Anne, Queen Anne
It started with Queen Anne
Firstly , the photo is fabulous -- the silhouette of Queen Anne against the rising red of the sun is a powerful image. Secondly, the poem (which could be a song -- no surprise there) is wonderful in its own right but especially because of its reflection of your affinity for nature (which shows up so beautifully in so many of your shots) and your reverence for the art and practice of capturing it through the lens of a camera. This is a special combination that resonates with your spirit.
Stunning Kareen! The image is beautiful and by pairing it with the poem, you've captured what I think so many of us have felt through participating on 365.
So beautiful and sensitive.... both your image and poem. Thank you for sharing how photography has has changed your life. I can really relate to what you are describing. You say it better than I ever could though... :) FAV
