This is a black snake we call Leroy. We think he has lived here for at least 10 years. He accidentally was wounded by a weed eater. This is how we identify him. He is long maybe 4 feet. He hangs out under our bird feeders and eats mice and I think they eat poisonous snakes. We like him but only want one to live here not a family.
Kathy, what a great shot of your snake friend. We have little garden snakes that my husband names... I haven't seen one in a while but he is sure he knows them by name when he sees them.
Well....not much a snake fan. Your story and photo however are lovely and hope that he remains a friend! Hopefully he doesn't birds?? Great capture through the grass!
I don't like to be startled by a black snake, and I really don't want them to eat my baby birds or frogs, or get too close to the house, but they are ok at a distance. I have seen a 4 blacksnake a couple of times while I've been out mowing but I just stopped and let it pass. Hope you were able to get this photo without getting too close... like the way you caught him peeking through the grass!
Well, hello Leroy. Very nice to meet you. I hope you have gotten better at watching out for (and dodging) weed eaters! Ouch. :-(
It's so nice that you have welcomed this garden resident. I love this shot of him peeking at you through the grass. I like snakes and Leroy is cute. :-)
