The "North Country, Lands of Alaska" mural pictured here is found on the fifth floor of the Main Interior Building in Washington, D.C. The seven-dog sled team in the painting is appropriately facing north on the long main hallway of the building. The little known Section of Fine Arts of the U.S. Treasury Department commissioned Gifford Beal to paint this mural and one other in the building in 1941. His works were also exhibited in the 1939 World's Fair, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Art Institute in Chicago.
Looks like they're driving the dogsled down the corridor. Nice non-sequitur contrast. I like the pattern on the floor tile leading your eye way back into the shot. Superb, as always, Karen!
@davydo Thanks, Dave! I thought the same thing about the dogsled looking as though it's riding down the corridor. I was striving to get just that look to the photo.
