Olaus Jeldness was a ski pioneer from Norway. He moved to the US and then Canada as a miner, but brought with him his love of skiing. He is thought of as the father of skiing in our town and he established the first ski club and downhill ski competition here over 120 years ago. A few years back this 4 meter tall statue of him was installed on the main street in town. During the day you can see Red Mountain behind him.
