I noticed a lower number of butterflies during the summer drought, but now it's autumn and we've had rain and there are monarchs and a huge number of native butterflies and caterpillars everywhere. I never tire of that orange and black combo!
Thank you for the awesome comments and questions on my photos.
I was so thrilled to see them in their thousands in 2015 in a visit to California. I am equally thrilled that they found their way to Australia.

@ludwigsdiana@shutterbug49 thanks! I made the frame with part of the butterfly wing on a new layer, pasted it all around the edge, then used the PS liquefy filter. finally just cut out a thin frame of it all :)
@koalagardens Can't imagine it despite seein it on TV. By the way, I think your Monarch is a girl, I can't see the dark spots on the lower wing which would denote a male, but of course the wings are not fully open.

@ludwigsdiana I used the grevillea flower for this one using the same method too. https://365project.org/koalagardens/xtra/2019-05-10
but I've kept a png copy of both frames, and I'm going to be able to reuse them, maybe do selective colouring or something just to change them a little.
now I've done a couple, I think I can make them pretty quickly - working out how to do the first one was a little trickier. glad you like the result :)
