On the right is Newman - and on the left is another new koala I haven't seen before. You can see this koala is literally hanging on the end of a branch, and it has bent so that it hanging straight down. Newman is sitting on the main branch only just below where this side branch comes off.
So the youngster was literally left dangling as there was no way out but to climb up and face the big fella.
Later that afternoon Newman had left the tree (and the property) and they youngster was sitting pretty much in the spot Newman is in now. Looked a little shaken up, but otherwise fine, but I'm betting that koala has aching arms for days!
I wonder if I will find the young one again today - it may be one of those mysteries in life ... Thank you for the awesome questions and comments on my photos. Koalas are not always the sleepy cute fluffies they appear, but are definitely wild animals that often have to fight they way in their hierarchical society structure.
A lovely diptych - so obviously (as I had previously thought ) Newman had not brought his pal to see you ! Hope they both find their status in the colony and stay around with you !
@fr1da thankfully it doesn't seem the youngster fell - the thin branch managed to stay attached. I couldn't really intervene as that could have cause the younger one to fall, so I just let them work it out.
