I'm so excited. I know they have bred here before, but this is the first time I have actually found a Tawny on her nest. They build nests you would barely believe will stay up and I can't wait for the chicks - they are seriously cute. Nature is amazing.
@onewing@briaan@ludwigsdiana@tinley23@jamibann@wendystout honestly they are hard to spot - I just slowed at the right moment and thought, what is that thing?
Now I'm checking her daily - you won't believe what these chicks look like in the nest, I just can't wait!
@merrelyn right? you can see that in this photo too - if you didn't know how they nest you wouldn't realise those few fine sticks under her are a nest, built on a fairly horizontal branch. how the chicks stay in is beyond me. once they hatch and are big enough for mum to leave for a bit to hunt they just sit there with those huge eyes lol
Well spotted - they always put a smile on my face , Having read your previous replies - I could not believe those twigs were the nest ! Isn't nature wonderful ! fav
@beryl right? and TBH I didn't fully believe it til I found her sitting on it again the next day. I've seen them nesting other places, so I knew how they look, but seeing it here has given me the biggest lot of joy!
