Day one in Russia ended with a visit to the 325 meter long St. Catherine's Palace in the town of Pushkin, 30 minutes south of St. Petersburg. More than 100 kilograms of gold were used to gild the sophisticated stucco façade and numerous statues erected on the roof. It was quite the sight to see!
Such an exquisite castle. This is a lovely photo, showing the huge size and the lovely blues of the exterior. Were the artists still on the walk up to the castle grounds? I purchased some beautiful small paintings from them before entering the castle.
