Glanced at the Frederick Post before work this morning and on the front page was an article about a High Wheel Bike Race at 4:30. I saw one of these bikes in the Damascus parade in July and knew it would be fun. Streets were closed down and traffic was horrendous for those unaware of the event. The race was an hour long around and around and around about a four city block. The blocks were lined with spectators watching the fifteen or so cyclist. I walked around the whole block taking pictures. Bob followed never losing sight of me which was a good thing since I had no idea where he was and would never have found him in that crowd.
I'd love to know where this is! We call these bikes Penny Farthings! Our town of Oamaru features these bikes and have treks, races and hands on from the main area! This is NZ.
@maggiemae this is Frederick, Md. and is the first time a race of this kind was held in the United States. Twenty five riders came from all over the states to race.
@darsphotos thanks Darlene I'm so glad I noticed it in the paper that morning and we could go. My husband said the Frederick news was costing him more than he though since I keep finding things to go from it...most are free though and he was just kidding...
