Collegiate Transportation

I did it! Or rather, I didn’t do it! I hugged Katy goodbye today without crying! I’ll admit to my eyes welling up a bit, but I held my breath until I gained control. After spending the day getting her dorm room organized, picking up her books and parking pass, and connecting her computer to the campus wi-fi, I could see that she was feeling more relaxed. I think this is the beginning of a lot of fun for her.

This is just one of the six bike racks outside of her dorm. I couldn’t believe how many bikes there were! And after walking the huge campus today, I don’t know how anyone gains the freshman fifteen!
what a cool time in yours and your daughters life. Trust me , it just gets better and the relationship gets stronger in a great way. Nice shot. I didn't think they used those that much anymore.

it is just so neat that you could be involved like that, getting her all set up.

Good job, mom! Sounds like you covered all the bases. Katy is going to have an amazing time! You've done a great job of parenting to get her to this point. Be proud. :)

Yay for you!! I was on campus today too to be there for the induction ceremony (did you go? It was nice) and to bring down a few forgotten stuff for Chris. I'm pretty sure it could not have been hotter or more humid!! Whew! Glad Katy is settled in and I'm sure she'll enjoy the whole college experience.

Congratulations, Lisa! I know you're so proud of Katy and I know she'll do well and I know you'll be fine.... but it was hard, I know that, too. It's nice that you were able to spend the day helping her to get organized... :) good momma...

Cool pics! That is a LOT of bikes, reminds me of Japan! :)

@sarasdadandmom I'm trusting that you're right, Terry! I just can't believe she's grown. Now my poor son is going to be victimized by a traumatized, doting mother!

@hoosierhokie We skipped the induction because Katy didn't want to do it. What dorm is Chris in? Katy's in Forest, but I don't know if she'll get moved to another one since she's in supplemental housing.

@scrappydoo Kind of reminded me of Japan, too, because there are so many Asian students! ;)
August 25th, 2011
@rddaisy I did a lot of "pre-blubbering"! Maybe I was just blubbered out!

@erikadee I can't believe I'm okay with it! I think it's because she's so happy. How can I not be? Now I just have to make sure she doesn't meet a guy from out of state to fall in love with and marry.

Gald that everything just went smoothly fine..She'll be okey and you should be..Cool shot 'tho :)

Great shot well at least she'll be exercising more than her brain

@lisjam1 - Chris is in Teter. I don't think they have anyone living in their floor's lounge but there are kids staying in the lounges on other floors. It's unbelievable how over-crowded they are! But things will shake out soon and they will get those kids out and into real rooms. I've heard nice things about Forest (I think they have an honors floor there) so I hope Katy stays there.

Congrats! I would have lost it! I have a few years before my girls go!

@orangecrush Oh, I was a mess the day before. I kept trying to hide my little crying jags from her, but my red eyes gave me away. How did the years go by so quickly? I’m not ready for my fledgelings to leave the nest!

@lisjam1 - - OMGoodness, NO! At least... not until senior year when you're all a bit more used to her being away... :)

Sad, happy, exciting, distressing, different..... I've had some experience in this and somehow we move into a new pattern. Nice photo and I'm thinking the only ones that gain the 15 are the ones that have cars!
