The Giving Tree by lizzybean

The Giving Tree

I was up and out early this morning to run some errands and stopped by my son's house (which is the house I grew up in from 3rd grade on) to take some pictures of the Japanese Cherry Blossom Tree. It blooms with these white blossoms, and then shortly after, with pink blossoms(they are not quite ready to open yet) Not sure how or why it has 2 different colors. (There was also a rose bush in the yard many years ago that would one year bloom red, the next, yellow). I'll hope to get back there to try and capture the pink blossoms this weekend.
Love it, so pretty, sounds as if you have two varieties grafted onto the rootstock, they sell apple and pear trees grafted in the same way.

Another possibility is its originally white rootstock and the grafting was pink but the white rootstock has grown as well as the pink grafting. Our neighbour had one on the front lawn which flowered in the same way, sorry its the gardeners daughter coming out in me. !

@craftymeg
thank you so much for your response, and for sharing your knowledge! We never knew the reason for the different colors. I want to say the tree has been there for the better part of 50 years, since we moved into that house when I was 8 and I always remember it being there. And thank you for the follow!
