This is the same squirrel that was winking in yesterday's photo. Found out today that this is a mama squirrel with a baby. She carried the baby in her mouth across the yard today. Hope they weren't moving away!
What a darling creature; love those little feet. I was curious about why a mama squirrel would be moving her babies. I read that they build several nests so they have the option to relocate their young should a first nest be damaged in some nature. Did not know that!
@sueb47 Sue, I was very close to her. She runs if I get TOO close, but she's not really afraid of me anymore. Sometimes when I go outside, she runs up on the patio or deck, so I get her some food and put water in the birdbath for her to get a drink.
She won't move away with a diet like that! There are loads of squirrels in our garden but I can never work out where they actually nest and I've never seen babies just teenagers.
Well you would understand how delighted I am for you that you're becoming friends with this little Mamma! And what a thrill to see her with a baby! I'm so hopeful Frosty has only been MIA due to child-rearing away from the chaos in our yard! What I'd give to see a baby! I've loved your two squirrel photos and hope to see more!
