GREENFINCH by markp

GREENFINCH

This is a male Greenfinch ( Carduelis chloris ), the female is not as bright. There is a pair, maybe two pairs, that visit the feeders with the Goldfinches, though it is bigger and has a much stronger beak it sometimes gets a hard time from the Goldfinches. I have got another little garden dweller in my other album today.

I took a photo of a greenfinch this morning that I was going to post, but maybe not now seeing yours! Great shot.

Lovely shot and a Fav. Greenfinches are becoming less common now so it's nice to see them. Have you been doing the RSPB Big garden birdwatch?

Cool bird! This bird reminds me of our grosbeaks. How many different species do you see on an average day?

@nanalisarocks Thank you very much, how many species do I see on a normal day ? Well let's see, at this time of year there are visiting the garden, ( numbers behind bird, roughly max number of that species)

House Sparrow 40+
Dunnock 6
Starling 20?
Greenfinch 2
Goldfinch 18
Chaffinch 2
Blue tit 12+
Coal tit 2
Great tit 4
Long tailed tit 18
Wren 2
Goldcrest 2
Blackbird 10 +
Mistletoe thrush 2
Magpie 2+
Carrion crow 2
Robin 3
Grey wagtail
Wood pigeon 2 (have had 30 of these at one time)
Collared dove 10 +
Sparrowhawk

Also sometimes Siskins, Jays, Woodpeckers, pied wagtails, and also flying over at least three species of gull, and many other things visit now and then. I have probably forgotten one or two others

@nanalisarocks Haha Lisa , spell check rules again. It is a Mistle Thrush not a Mistletoe thrush.

@markp That's incredible! Wow! I've never had more than 17 species in my yard on any given day. Although I do occasionally hear/see the occasional hawk flying overhead. And the squirrels, they should count, as they pilfer the feeders daily!
