DRIPPING DIPPER by markp

DRIPPING DIPPER

A few days ago I posted a distant Dipper this time I got closer.
This shot just shows what fascinating birds these truly are. This is where they spend a great deal of their lives, standing on a rock in the middle of a swiftly flowing river. Waiting to walk, dive, swim and I have even seen them fly into the raging torrents, in search of food. In fact this one had just been hit and totally submerged by a very large wave that broke over him. As the water cleared I could see he had not moved at all. Look closely, you can see the last of the water running off his back.

I managed to find at least four, possibly five different Dippers, and spent most of the afternoon watching their amazing antics.

More wonders from Scotland here....

Super close-up - love both the water with the high shutter speed and the colors here. Fav

What an interesting bird. Reminds me a bit of the bears standing at the bottom of falls in Alaska, waiting to catch a passing salmon.
